Private label products attract more and more as retail chains open up rapidly, and as inflation rates go up. The new target of the sector, which reached 25 Billion TL, is to double this figure
The rise in food and cleaning products led the consumer to private label products. Private Label Products Manufacturers and Suppliers Association (PLAT) President Imer Ozer said “If this trend continues, we will double the share of private label products in the total market,” . Dominating16.3 percent of the total retail market, private label products underwent an increase in demand in the last three months. Answering questions at the World of Private Label Amsterdam 2017 held in Amsterdam, Özer said that he had close to 120 members and the turnover of the sector was 25 billion TL. “In our market, in 2016, the year ended with growing figures in 13 out of 20 countries in Europe. The market has a potential of 25 billion TL. If this interest continues, we foresee that the market size will increase to 50 billion TL. Products that offer both price advantage and assurance appearing more commonly on the shelves of chain stores. ”
IDEAL RATIO OF THE SECTOR 50-50%
Hakan Hatipoğlu, Vice Chairman of Plat Board, said that the ideal figure in the ratio of branded and private label products is 50-50 percent throughout the sector. We observe that the market chains have started to try their own brands due to the increase in prices. ”
NUMBER OF STORES STOPS AT 25 THOUSAND
Imer Özer stated that the chains in every segment of the retail sector increased the number of stores in a fast way and said “there are chains that open a new store every day”. “We estimate that the figure will settle for a total of 25 thousand stores. Sales grew by 8.8 percent compared to the previous year in Turkey. In the same period, Poland grew by 4.7 percent and Hungary by 4.5 percent. Poland and China are currently our export competitors. We aim to increase our exports even more with such fairs ”. Hakan Hatipoğlu also stated that the new trend in the sector is organic products and said “ As a company, we will invest in this field and produce organic products in the near future. ”
